HOW TO VOTE

Hey there, I’m Jacob and I go by he/him. I’m the president of a club and a committee member of two clubs, and a second year biomedical science student, so my schedule is very full. But I’ll always make time for what matters, and that’s your rights as a student. That’s why I’m running for Guild Councillor this year.

A large part of what I value is accountability and leadership, and that shows through with my membership on 2 student club committees. As the president of a club, I know what it means to have to make some hard decisions, get people on track and give people a firm no, that’s not right. I am organised, and I know when to listen and when to speak, all things you should want in your Guild Council.

The Guild under Illuminate has managed to fight for and secure paid prac for nursing, midwifery and social work students, but you have to jump through a hundred hoops just to get paid for your work! Not to mention the countless other health science courses that still don’t get compensation for their work. And don’t even get me started on the unpaid pracs other faculties get stuck with. As a guild councillor, I will ensure the fight for paid pracs doesn’t stop until everyone is compensated fairly for their work.

The club space has also seen massive growth under Illuminate, and I intend to continue this growth, because clubs are what makes university fun. I endeavour to fight for more funding from the university for club grants, and for faculties that need it so they can be more involved in helping their clubs, and for upgrades to the current system so that club events are easier and less stressful to organise.
