OUR PLAN FOR CURTIN STUDENTS

Hi everyone! My name is Mia Antenucci (she/her), and I am a first-year student studying Psychology. I am very excited to be running for Accessibility Officer for 2026! The Accessibility Officer is in charge of the Accessibility Department of the Student Guild. The Accessibility Department is one of the 4 Equity Departments in the Guild and sits on the Representation Board. The Accessibility Department exists to help advocate for all students with disabilities and carers. This includes sensory disabilities, psychiatric disabilities, invisible and undiagnosed disabilities, neurodiversity and physical disabilities. There are many people who have multiple disabilities, don’t identify as disabled or are unaware they belong to the disability community.

I have been extremely involved in the Accessibility Department over the past year. If you have attended any events/stalls run by the Accessibility Department this year, you would have seen me. I have also been part of the Accessibility Collective and attended all the meetings. The Accessibility Collective assists the Accessibility Officer in making decisions regarding events that the Department is doing and provides feedback on different initiatives in the Guild and the Uni.

I think that the best word to describe me is determined. I am extremely passionate about improving the lives of disabled students at Curtin, and I will work as hard as I possibly can to achieve this. I am also quite talkative, and I would really love to hear from other disabled students, so please come and talk to me. I also think that the biggest asset to the disabled community is our diversity. It is extremely important to me that all people with all different disabilities feel supported and have a voice in the actions of the Student Guild. As every single disabled person’s experience is different, it means that you know what you need best. Therefore, as Accessibility Officer, it is my job to help you.

If I am elected as Accessibility Officer, I aim to provide practical solutions to improve students' daily lives. I will continue the work done by previous Accessibility Officers, including the Guild Accessibility Matrix, Peer Support Sessions (previously known as Creative Connections) and a variety of stalls. I also aim to make Disability Pride Month bigger and better next year with a variety of activities throughout the month. I also aim to simplify processes like the CAP plans, assignment extensions and the accessibility of a variety of important information for students with disabilities. I would also love to improve and increase the signage, as it’s very difficult to find anything at Curtin.

In short, as Accessibility Officer, I hope to make your life easier, more enjoyable and more fun.
